It has been way too long since I have taken the time to write in this blog. So much has happened since I the last time I wrote.
My last semester has been extremely busy, a far cry from what I thought it would be like. It seems like although I am only taking four classes since I only needed one more class to graduate that I picked up more activities to more than fill in the empty time. Plus there is internship applications and scholarship applications that seems to gobble up every free second that comes my way.
Besides all of that – some great news about graduate school – I was chosen (after an extensive interview) to be one of two workers at UPMC Mercy, Brady Library of the Health Sciences to work there throughout the school year. They are going to pay half of my tuition, so it is a great award that is really going to help me pay for grad school. I should be finished in the summer of ’09 and will work for UPMC Mercy all three semesters. I am still planning on looking for a job in the Pittsburgh area once I graduate.
Secondly, we already have our apartment lined up for the fall. Three of us will be living together in a cottage in Frick Park – about two miles from the Pitt campus. It has a lot of character, exactly what we wanted since we are all History majors. Plus it is a Historical Building of Pittsburgh – what a coincidence! Anyway (yeah I know I am a dork) the biggest obstacle and fear for me is walking to and from the bus stop back to our place. Other than that, I love the area – it is mostly college students and is not right downtown. I think getting the lease and all of that out of the way so early was one of the best things that we could have done – now all we have to focus on is finishing up our senior year and earning some money over the summer to help pay for the costs of living.
It still does not seem like I am graduating. But I am so excited about all that jazz… it is kind of hard to believe how much that piece of paper means to me. OK – I know it is more than a piece of paper, it is the education, but that is what it all comes down to – having that piece of paper as proof.
Well I hope to have time to write a couple more entries before the summer – but if not, I hope you will all follow along with me to graduate school where I take on a whole new adventure in the big city!
